Default GSR distributor?

The check engine light (on my 98 GSR) went on a few weeks ago. A buddy of mine owns a car repair shop. He checked it out and said that the distributor was going bad.

However, my father (who's owned quite a few Hondas) and my 2 future brother-in-laws (who both have hooked up multiple cars) said that the distributor usually doesn't go bad.

Anyone else encounter this problem? I haven't had any trouble starting the car, so if it is the distributor it isn't gone yet...

Hondas are known to have shitty Coils and igniters to go bad. Rarely we replace the whole distributor assembly. Don't know about your situation. Its hard to say what it may be. What code does it read you?

Part numberD for the coil 30510-P73-A02, igniter 30130-P73-A01

I don't know. I didn't ask my buddy that. I guess I should do so... Thanks for the replies!
