axel fucking wont go in or bad grommet maybe?

hey i just finished up my swap today since my engine hydrolocked and i had to replace the bitch.....i used my tranny adn my axels, and when i put in the drivers side axel i thought it was in all the way so we started putting the oil in there, and it leaked out like a bitch.....its coming from the hole on the drivers side only where the axel goes in, it looks like the axel isnt going all the way into the hole or something, we've tried to get it in a ton of times with no luck, wtf could be wrong that it would not go in all the way? or is it leaking through the hole bc the level is not supposed to go above where the axels go in? well any help would be appreciated, sorry if that sounds like a dumb question but i've never seen that shit happen in all the axels i've put in.
