anyone chipped thier ECU ?????
okay i ordered one of those chips from a website and when i got it the rom socket was like a couple pins shorter than my stock one, and the prongs were like twicw as wide too. has anyone chipped thier shit? i have a P28, and the chip says it fits P08,P28,P30,P61,P91.
can this be right, if anyone knows about any of this chip crap let me know. i know how to build circuit boards and stuff and im pretty competent but this just doesnt look right.

i would NOT chip your ECU... people seem not to understand that by chiping your ecu you might get some extra hp or you may not... you may lose hp... what you need to understand is that, that program was made and tested on someones car... ok works fine on THEIR car with THEIR but that is NOT your car... each car is different...
Translation you need to tune for what you have not for what someone else has... ditch the chip and get: Hondata,Vafc,AEM Power FC, Haltech... on and on and on!!!

that is cool that you are just fucking around... it is the BEST way to learn shit... but when you do decide to run a nice setup and you dont want to mess up your computer go with hondata, haltech, or the AEM Power FC... i have had Hondata and loved it and am now running the AEM computer in my RX-7, i will let you know what i think of it once i am done with break in on the motor and have it tuned...

go to RadioShack and get a socket. it's a 26 pin IC socket.
when you desolder the pads on the circuit board, be careful and use low heat or you'll pull the pads off the board.
there's 2 pads that will be difficult to desolder, so be patient.
lastly, use a LOT of solder when you solder the socket in... the mainboard is dual layer, so the solder has to flow thru to the other side of the board. if you dont use enough, obviously you wont get contact and you'll have to start all over again.
i HIGHLY recommend you use the socket... as you will be able to remove the chip at a later time without soldering, and you'll be able to convert over to Hondata easily.
