Default Piston ring install

Hey I know ive been told that I have to remove the motor to install new rings but I know that ive read here or hondaswap that it is possiable to install new rings without having to remove the whole motor out of the car. I just dont see why such a thing would have to be done. I know this is what is going to end up having to be done. I just need to see if anyone knew somthing about this?

theres no reason the motor would have to come out just the head and oil pan woill need to come off for access. if you are gonna have to bore the block thats a different story and you will have to yank it hope this helps.
