how does my computer know the vss not working when its a cable and no signal to ecu?

how does my computer know the vss not working when its a cable and no signal to ecu?
i lost the clip to hold my vss cable unit into the transmission and i keep getting the code under decelaration for vss unit. but im just wondering how the hell the computer knows when its only a cable
acura doesnt sell this part anymore so i need to figure out a way to rig it up if anyone knows let me know plz!!!!!!!!

theres a wire from the back of the gauge cluster to the ecu. the cluster converts the spinning cable into a signal

Shouldn't be too hard to get a paper clip to work or find a used one from someone. But that is correct the cluster converts the mechanical input to an analog signal to the ecu.

ya ima rig someshit up im pretty sure i need the speedo to work when i get a vtec head. doesnt the ecu have to read 20 mph from the speedo to go into vtec or somecrap i thought i read that once back in the day

yes but you can also disable the VSS in the ECU so it wont look for it.
