Hey guys! Having a big problem with my ignition switch again. I turn the key and the car takes a few tries before it starts. About 6 months ago, I replaced the starter with a used one and the problem went away, but now it's back. I replaced the starter again with a brand new from Advanced Auto Parts, but this time it's not working.

Most of you know about the recall Honda had on the ignition/immobilizer systems for most Hondas. The key dash light blinks when it doesnt recognize your key and you can't get the car started for many tries. Well, I'm the second owner so I called honda directly (1-800-999-1009) to find out if the recall for the ignition switch had been done before and they said it WAS back in 2004. They asked to bring the car in for a diagnosis to see if the ignition switch was the problem, but it's up to Honda if they want to replace it for free.

I haven't taken it in, but I want to ask if anyone has had this issue before with any 96-02 Hondas. Has anyone been able to fix or bypass this issue without being raped by the Dealership? Any tips?

I dont think your gonna get much help on disabling the immobilizer on a honda on this forum.

Just take it to the dealer. Then you can at least find out what the problem is if it isnt the ignition/immobilizer.

the preludes fot honda's first generation of immobilizer and all the "learning curve" that came with it.
that generation of immobilizer also controls the starter... so it may be related.
will the car crank or does it not do anythng?
if it doesn't even crank, is the greenkey light on the dash flashing?
sometimes on these just turning the key too fast can be an issue.
sometimes interference from other keys or items on the key chain can be a problem
