thoughts on short shifters??
hey i have a question about short shifters. ive read in a few places that it may mess up the sincros, and also read that it is fine and wont mess anything up. any thoughts or feed back would be appreciated, if it makes a differences its a neuspeed.
thanks for the help

It could screw up your suncros. Its just going to depend on how you drive the car. If you are always going through the gears like the 1/4 mile then yes your going to fuck up your sincros. Thats a known fact. Its just a matter of time. On the other hand you can do the same with your factory shifter. If you are not giving them time to line up they will wear out.

short shifters are also overrated. plus, as cykociv already said, they can lead to increased wear on the synchro's.
if you're going to spend money, purchase something thats going to increase performance.

im sorry, but i have to say that my OBX shifter and bushings were the BEST dollar for dollar investment i ever made
53 dollars shipped to me with nuespeed shift bushings
most of the improvment was due to shitty bushings but i LOVED that shifter to death.
and it never made me grind any gears
some shifters are just to fuckin short is where alot of probs occur

yes, less time spent shifting equals more power to the wheels, however, is that really noticeable? and for 100 dollars or whatever it costs for a short shifter you can put that towards cams, cam gears, even a new bottom end which will really increase power.
and i agree with jason...the improvement was most likely due to shitty bushings with his stock shifter. i would say its just like someone going with aftermarket plug wires versus stock honda and claiming they get 2 more hp from them...when the gain was really due to the honda wires being old and not as effective.
i think most people would agree that there is a certain set of steps that need to be taken to have a quick honda...ie low 13's high 12's all motor.
tuning
a good power to weight ratio
displacement
compression
timing
limited slip and final drive
and most importantly, a good driver.

thanks for all the input guys, from what i see it a mixed emotion on this subject. its a neuspeed like i said...so im really kinda lost.
All I'd suggest is installing, trying it out, and see if you like it. If you do, and you're grinding gears or anything, then go back to stock. But if you're not, and you're happy with the results, leave it. It's basically just a matter of personal preference. Driver error is the cause of most of the problems people have with them.
