Try a compression check. The tester's are available from auto parts stores for about $25. Should be around 190 across the board.

Clutch maybe? (longshot...)

I've encountered the exact problem as the result of a bad rotor, and at another time, as the result of a bad ignitor. Troubleshoot the ignition system first.
