Default How to fix my automatic revving problem on my 97 Prelude

Im sure alot of you guys get this problem, or have had this problem once in your life, but because of the darn cold weather my car revs from 1000 rpms to 2000 rpms and back and forth on its own. I know its the Air Control Module, but ive never fixed this thing and its annoying, any tips? Thanks in advance

there are to things that usually cause this in a honda, the IAC motor( idle air control) and the tps(throttle position sensor), try replacing the IAC first its less expensive and usually thats what is wrong, very common honda problem

what happens is the fast idle valve in the throttle body becomes stuck. this is a mechanical idle control valve that is controlled by a temperature sensitive spring heated by those pecky coolant lines going through your throttle body.

it's supposed to close when the engine is warm and your IACV takes over from there, in a nut shell.

well, when it sticks, it's a HUGE vacuum leak that the IACV cant compensate for. on the bottom of the throttle body where the coolant lines go, you can unbolt the assembly and either weld the throttle body closed of make a block-off plate.

9 times out of 10, this solves the issue
