Exclamation crx cuts off on startup

i just got a 89 crx , it has a d16z6 sohc vtec obd1 n a couple of other mods , ive been drivin it for about a month now and she just started giving me startup probs. The needle for the r p m dsnt work and to me it sounds like the idle is way to low, when she cranks it sounds like the r p m drop a lil bit then she cuts off. i would have to try startin it 3 more times before it sounds like its idleing perfect n continues running

i talked to some dudes at autozone n they told me that if its ideling low i can only adjust it thru the ecu ..

i have no idea if thats what i gotta do but i just curious of what you guys think

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

if the engine is cold when you start it up then it sounds like your high idle control valve is going bad

this opens up first on start up which takes the r p m s high, then as the car warms up that closes and the idle air control valve (icv) takes over which is when you see the r p m s start to decrease, the icv is adjusted by a screw.
