Default Compatibility between D series head gaskets

I need to know if all D series head gaskets are interchangeable between different blocks and heads.

I do know that they have different thicknesses that will vary your final compression ratio, but are there others that are stronger or weaker on different blocks?

To sum it up, I am rebuilding D16Y8, and I want to save some money by purchasing a cheaper D series head gasket than the Y8 one. Granted the Y8 is the thinnest, giving higher compression, does that really stack up in the end?

Thanks

Flames accepted and aside, I am trying to be cheap lol. I want to get this rebuild done sooner than later, and cash is pretty tight.
