Black smoke under moderate to heavy throttle..?
Hi all back again...
Still working on my H22 Swapped CL
Car runs good now.. but under throttle medium to heavy it smokes black really bad..
like a smoke screen almost... I have replaced the Rotor in the dizzy and a brand new ignition coil..
What else to check???
I know the car has a chipped ECu in it.. But no Idea what map its running...
All I know is vtec breaks at 4800...

it could be from the fuel mapping on the ecu, I would say try plugging up a buddys stock ecu setup for that motor. You can also try cleaning your throttle, just pull it use carb cleaner, rinse it with water, and then spray it down with wd40. it could be sticking and or jumping open(like a swinging door).
either...
1. you have a rich map setup on the ECU, if it's stock and your running a "performance" map then you'll flood the engine.
2. you have an exhaust leak and/or the o2 sensor is going out.
if your running a gutted cat or no cat then the engine will naturally blow black smoke. it's unburnt fuel in the exhaust stream due to there being no back pressure on the o2 sensor and it's telling the ECU that the engine is running lean and the ECU compensates by dumping more fuel in.
most likely though it's your ECU.

^ would it run stock map if I remove the chip in the ecu???
I have no idea.. Ive never had a chipped ECu before..
Im not sure if I even have a O2 sensor... Im gonna look tomorrow.. Nope no cat... straight 3 inch exhaust from header back...
no this isnt a little black smoke this is allot.. like a smoke screen when I get on it....

No, the chip controls how the car will run, you will need to use a stock ECU, or get a chip burnt with the stock map.
