GSR tranny help
I have a 97 GSR tranny. The 4th and 5th gears of both the main and coutershaft are almost completely rounded off. I wantted to know do i need to replace the syncros? How do i tell if the syncros are bad? Can i just replace 4th and 5th? so a total of 4 gears are needed to be replaced right? I think they run about $100 per gear right? Does anyone konw about this? Transmisson stuff. Give me a good answer so i know what exsatly it is i need to buy for this tranny? please

if you want to replace the snycro's i have some bad news for ya. they come on the 1-2 hub the 3-4 hub and the 5th is a solo hub, each hub is right around 300 bucks. and thats just for the syncro's. and yes, each gear is right around 100 bucks each. when i figured my tranny problems out i thought i would go the route of rebuilding by just replacing the sycnro's and the bad gear and also the shift forks. well for the tranny rebuild i wanted it was well over 1100 bucks, i bought my type-r tranny for a little more than that and i have a brand new tranny with an lsd.
way i see it is if you know for sure thats all you need to fix and your tranny will be fine after that and can find someone to rebuild it for cheap then go for it. or just get what you can out of that one and order you a spoon equiped type-r tranny from jdmhondaparts.com and be done with it. it your choice, if you want to see it for yourself then go to the link i posted below and enter the info to select that tranny and look at the assembly and the costs of the parts then figure in labor. i know its not great news but hell im a straight shooter so just deal with it mang.

asking away for what? the head mechanic at honda cars of bradenton showed me the way. and he is the fucking man, just ask the dyno owner. the prices on that site i posted are right about on the money. now if you want i can pass you along to my honda parts hook-up and he may be able to sell you a gsr tranny, a used one of course.
Well iam fiquring spending about 500 to get this tranny like new again. I dont need the syncros acording to a blown up view of this tranny. How much for a used gsr tranny could you get? thats 400 for the 4th and 5th both counter and main. $100 for rebuild.

I only need to 4th and 5th gear mainshaft and the 5th gear countershaft. Two little springs and a rebuid from colin. Total is like 3-4 hundred. not bad. I think so. Even though i fiqured that i could have bought a a ready to go for about all i put into this one.
