Default does vetec suck in the 1/4 mile???????????????

my friend and I were having a discussion about how vetec works in a 1/4 mile. I have read in two different mags that it is not good for a 1/4 mile that it is better for top speed. That is what the mag said and he seems to think other wise what do you guys think???? Me and my friend would like your opinions.

well, i think i'll answer this post because i'm bored. first, unless ford and honda joined i'm not familar with any vetec engines currently on the market.

second, people might say vtec isn't great in the 1/4 mile because a vtec motor makes its power in the higher rpm's. the downside to this is that with 1.6 or 1.8 liters the engine produces very little torque.

there are ways to overcome this. first, being able to launch at 5000 or 6000 rpm allows for vtec to already be engaged and staying in vtec makes for a fast 1/4 time. however, few of us have slicks, lsd and the money to constantly buy axles.

thus, launching at 3000 rpm is more realistic and that is why hybrid honda's are running 14's and 13's rather than 12's...for the most part. not that 12's aren't possible, it just takes great tuning, a lightweight car and a lot of time, energy and knowledge.

for one vtec isnt some mind boggeling creation that is only good for certain aspects of driving. my gsr in stock form ran 14.7's consistantly. with a new lsd equiped tranny and a few other things that should drop now. but as for the quarte mile your rpm's are the most important thing as the other dude mentioned. staying close to redline in ever gear allows for you to jump right into vtec for the next gear, so for some to say it isnt good for 1/4 runs doesnt really know shit about vtec motors. sounds to me like he is more worried about the length of the gears more than anything, seeing as how that plays thea major role of everything.

Default vtec

yes, there smart guys I did spell vtec wrong. But I was typing really fast and I didn't catch it. So for those who want to make fun of it go head. But what I meant was VTEC!!!!!!!! By the way the reason I saw that vtec is not that great in the 1/4 mile is because I read it. So do not think I am saying I do not like Vtec because I have my project car that is getting LS-Vtec put in it right now!!!!!
