Fuel question....need help. I don't know what it can be??
Alrights guys, well im stumped?? I don't know what this can be? let me start, its a 98 Civic dx. When my gas gets kinda low like a quarter of a tank left, the car starts sputtering like its running out of gas. When it clearly says I have gas. If i keep driving it will eventually die and sputter to the point where it seems like there is no gas, and i can barley go over 15mph. I replaced the fuel filter already thinking it was that. No. im thinking it might be the fuel pump. but if that was bad the car wouldn't start and wouldnt last that long when im driving but it only does this when the car has a quarter of a tank left. but if i keep it above that, it runs VERY smooth with no problems what so ever. maybe the gas gauge is messed up?? idk can anyone help me out? Thanks

How many gallons does it take to fill it back up?
IDK how the pickup is on fuel pumps, but water sinks in fuel. Maybe your sucking up water or debis??

Your sender is likely crapping out..the next tiem it does this, fill the tank till the pump shuts off..if its over 11 gal, its the sender..3/4 of a tank should be roughly 8 or 9

Alright nvm I did this thing called research on google about what a sender is. lmao its basically saying my fuel gauge is fucked and inaccurate. But thanks for the help I'll see if its that and keep you guys updated on it.

Yeah its really just a sliding contact inside the tank that changes resistance when the arm of the float moves...Your gauge moves the needle based on the resistance it picks up from the sender...any change in the parts wiring or contacts and itll be different.

Alright cool thanks. But yeah I think it might be the sender. Because i've kinda noticed that the needle stays at a certian spot for quite some time, then suddenly changes and goes lower and then back up alittle higher? I've been like wtf??? idk i've been thinking maybe I was just seeing things lmao. thanks again bro.

Alot of car's senders dont operate in a linear manner. I know mine holds full for a long time, then will drop to 3/4 and go to half fine..then from half to 1/4 it drops in like 30 mi, then 1/4 on takes forever.
