Default Knock sensor: can i do without or jerry rig?

So im putting a junkyard engine in my 98 civic right now and the wire in the knock sensor got pulled out (pretty much the knock sensor broke in half). THis is a stock motor, no plans for power adders. Is it important to have this function correctly? Is their a way to trick the ecu into thinking there is nothing wrong with this sensor or does this sensor only give info to the ecu when a knock is detected? Thanks in advanced guys, REALLY don't wanna spend $137 on the POS

well it has been a while since i delt with one but ALL knocks are the same b series V or d16y8 all the same, next i am sure u need it or u may go into a limp mode

but other option is to not worry about it and just buy a p28,jumper and d16z6 dizzy make it a quick obd1 motor p28 does not look for knock

thanks fellas. Gonna slap some jbweld on the sensor and stick the wire back in the hole and call it good. If the car runs like poop and throws a code Ill know what it is and deal with it then.

THAT SENSOR needs to be ground to the engine and plugged in if you dont have it plug in and are useing a b16/gsr ecu your vtec will not work and forget what else problems will be there..

I tried attaching my knock sensor to another location on the block after I broke the first and couldnt get at it..it doesnt work. That friggin thing is so sensitive, I tried a piezo buzzer fix, and hard mounted a brand new one to the head..nothing. It needs to be down on the block, threaded in and wired correctly.
