Default Noise???

Hello all!

I need your help. Recently I got a B16a2 swapped into my 92 CX. Well lately I have been hearing this noise, it sounds like a belt is loose or high winding noise. I only hear it when I rev my engine. I checked all the belts including timing and they are all tight. It sounds like it coming from some place near the motor/tranny? If anyone has experienced this please let me know and if there is anything I can check? Thanks.

Belts normally make a very distinct, high pitched, squeal. If it's simply a whine, I doubt it would be the belts. However what I might interpret as a squeal, you might interpret as a whine so...

Since you just finished up a swap, there's a chance that you might have gotten some oil/brake fluid on the belts. This will cause them to slip and squeal. Not exactly noticeable but easy to fix with some belt dressing or simply a new belt.

Another possibility is simply a split belt. Will make a definate whistle but it is usually easy to see/hear with the hood open and the car idling.

Yet another possibility since a swap was just done is a kinked coolant hose. This will cause a whistle and it's usually something people don't think too much about.

Thanks for the response. I'll check all belts again along with coolant hoses. Thanks Bill.

Sounds like a timing belt tensioner or water pump. If you check the belts and it isn't them then its probably what I said. One way to make sure: remove all the accessory belts and start the car and listen.

If the sound is coming from the tranny side it could be a mainshaft or pilot bearing.

Thanks. I checked all the belts and still making noise I'll go ahead and remove the alt and ac belt and see if it is still making the noise. Thanks.

Default hmmm

Is this the same tranny whine you've had since day 1? Or did you get that resolved?

No this is another whine. I checked today and it sounds like it's from my water pump? The tranny whine is still there even after all the effort from Jose. If you know of another tranny let me know. Thanks.

just another idea to throw in the mix, if the timing belt is too tight it makes a whine like a supercharger but only when you get on it, heard it myself the other night, very strange.
