Default sure fire way to tell if tranny is bad.???????

my dad looked at my car and he said the clutch was engaging but the car was not going anywhere, he looked at the cv's and tested them somehow and he thinks the differential is bad, how can i tell??

how can i test the tranny while its still in the car?
from what i can tell so far it seems fucked up to me.

Put your car up on jack stands and pull the hubs away from the axles but leave the axles in the diff. Then try spinning the axles both in gear and in neutral they should spin in opposite directions when in gear. If everything checks out then the axles might be binding in the hubs. If they don't spin then it might be your differential or other internal tranny part. Oh yeah pull the spark plugs before you try to spin it while in gear. Good luck.

also. it goes into all gears fine. and when i push down the clutch pedal it feels completely NORMAL. so it feels like the clutch is working right. but when i try to release the pedal it wont go anywhere or it wont stall with the pedal all the way out. my dad had me put it in gear/outta gear and was pushing my car back and forth while it was still in gear. when i got under the car while it was in gear the pass side axel was turning, but it was busted inside the boot, my dad thought maybe the one side didnt have a load on it and that might have been a prob. but the driver side cv, which i thought was the drive wheel, was not doing shit

Got it all tightened up, it was just an axle....it was popped, the tranny was spinning just fine, got another axle and put it in, put my foot on the disk with the wheels off and the car running and the open diff sent power to the other side, all good....he drove home.....
