Default snap ring on mainshaft part

I want to know if that snap ring can be left off because my tranny wont spin with it in there. i decided to put the two casings together with just the mainshaft to see if it will spin and it didnt and then i saw the snap ring there so i removed it and the mainshaft was able to spin. Can i leave it off?

That is a shim. Honda sells about 20 different sizes. You need to install the correct size. If you put the tranny back together without it bad things will happen. Did you recently switch tranny casings? Look into a helms manual and measure the clearance and order the correct shim and you will be good to go.
