Custom grease fittings for poly bushings
as most of you know poly bushings are often used and suggested when modifying a car.
poly bushings offered by energy suspension and a number of other companies are used when replacing oem bushings etc...
these bushings often have a noise issue and begin to squeek. they also wear faster and sometimes bind which is not something ideal for track use.
a buddy of mine told me about a guy who made grease fittings for the majority of poly bushings he put on his nissan and modified his bushings to allow the grease to be evenly applied. this should eliminate squeeking, eliminate binding, and hopefully increase the life of poly bushings.
my brother and i replaced his UCA bushings with energy suspension units and did grease fitting for them so i figured i would share:
we used a torch to burn out the old rubber bushings (torch can be purchased at home depot for around $15)- you just hold the flame on the bushing (in a well ventilated area). the rubber will pop out or heat up enough to be pulled out with channel locks.
before and after.

after burning out the rubber bushing there will still be a metal ring inside which needs to be removed to fit the poly bushing in. you can get a hack saw, put the blade inside the hole where the rubber bushing was and cut a line through it. then take a hammer and a flat head screw driver to knock it out.

you can get the grease fittings from an autopart store. get a metal drill bit and a threading kit that matches the threads on the grease fittings. drill a hole in a central location somewhere on the piece where it will clear the UCA (for the prelude i found that directly on the bottom was the best place (you also want to be able to access the grease fitting by just removing the rim) allowing you to grease the poly bushings regularly and with ease. you want to have the poly bushing in place so the hole is drilled through it also.

after threading the hole you made use a small dremel bit to carve a spiral path on the inside of the poly bushing starting at the center where the whole is and spiraling to almost to the edge of the bushing. repeat this on both sides of the bushing.

**edit**((my girls hands... my nails are not that long))

slide the metal sleeve into place and screw the grease fitting in (i suggest using thread lock).

then install the bushings onto the UCAs (Chassis Tech adjustable UCAs used in picture). connect a grease gun to the grease fitting and inject the grease. you will know when it is enough. i am using a green grease from the auto parts store.

thats all she wrote folks! install your UCAs and the job is done. this can also be used for almost all other poly bushing applications.

thanks for looking,

good stuff, the energy suspension blacks are supposed to not squeak as much or as easy because they have graphite or something in them IDK. I am going to go with the complete energy suspension kit for the whole car or w/e. I hope they dont squeak because I dont feel like putting a grease zerk on every piece lol
haha... i will slowly replace all of my bushing with poly bushings and do grease fittings for all of them. its super easy and cheap to do and if it extends the life of the bushings, stops squeeking, and stops the chance of the binding it is really worth it.
