I just got a d17a1 block and I have a d16y7 motor in my car with a bad rod could I just put my head on the block or is ther more to it? The guy I got the bottom end said it will work and just use my d16y7 head gasket and timing belt. Any help would appreciated. Thanks

they look similar, although i beleive it will not work. go the parts store and look at both head gaskets and see if everything lines up, if does than look closely at the mounts.
good luck

Ok, I took both motors heads off and the blocks are different. I should of known because of where the dip stick to the oil was. The d17a1 oil stick was on the back side of valve cover and the d16y7 was on the right side of the block. There is a difference where the oil holes are in the heads. On the d16y7 they are more farther to the front. So now I know a d17a1 motor will not fit a d16y7 head. The head will bolt up but the oil holes and the dip stick are totaly different. Im not even sure about the mounts. I will now look for a d16y7 or d16y8. I wil try to post pics up of what I found because I could not for the life of me find any info if they would interchange hope this helps some people out.

Here is what I did today link has pics d17a1 block and d16y7 head? Will it work? - Honda-Tech

any other d-series will work. if you use a pre-obd2 block you will have to use your oil pump because of an extra sensor on it...i would recommend a d16z6 because of better bearing oiling. but that only matters if you plan on keeping it for a long time. all the other motors are good too.
