that is one way to do it. but swapping the power steering rack out for a manual one isnt really that hard. it took me about an hour and a half from start to finish and that was removing the pump and all lines. this was on a delsol with an LS swap in it.

I know. Its just that a new rack is like $300. How were you routeing the lines??

i didnt. i removed all of the lines and pump, and installed a manual rack.

in the past ive just removed the pump and lines without looping the rack. but thats bad for the rack. its ment for power steering. i never had one break or anything, but ive heard of it happening.

Its more a matter of space. Im installing turbo set up soon and its getting crowded in there.

Fewer parts mean fewer things to break.

I removed belt, pump, lines, hoses, cooler, everything related to power steering, years ago....years ago....... and made a lightweight blockoff plate for where the hoses connected....... to keep dirt out of the rack.

It is a myth that power steering fluid lubricates the rack. It is a myth that a small car needs power steering. It is a myth that hoses must be looped. It is a myth that removing hoses requires rack replacement with a manual one.

Removing all components gives slightly more power to the engine
by reducing parasitic loss. Removing only the belt means you are manually forcing fluid backwards through everything, making a person THINK
it is hard to steer. Draining the fluid plus belt removal will make it easy to steer since a person is no longer manually forcing fluid backwards through everything. Removing everything is what I did.

Years ago...and I have had no problems....I can steer my "heavy" Accord with one finger...
your results may vary....-Bob
