Default I need someone with experience....Poop has OFFICIALLY hit the radiator fan.

what should i use to clean off my parts before re installation? i need to clean out my head and all my internals before i swap them. i took out my cams and cam caps and want to clean the inside and outside of the head. the main reason i want to is because when i was removing my head a few little tree seed/spore things fell in. nothing big but still i will be over hauling the entire engine and would hate the motor to blow cause of some seeds... also anyone have a walk through of a b18a/b rebuild? i have a haynes but could always use some more pics.

brake kleen or any other brake parts cleaner works good.. and also I heard something about engine degreaser or some shit works wonders.. and as far as the seeds and shit just pull them out.. then make sure you dont have anything in your cylinders

Simple green is pretty good too, and it won't destroy things like brake cleaner will.

brake parts cleaner. spray everything out real good, all the oil ports and shit. pull out any big pieces. run regular oil for break in with a high dollar filter. like k&n, it will cost like $10 but be well worth it. it will get all the metal filings from the newly rebuilt motor as well as any of the trash that you are speaking of. run for 500 miles and then drain and put in synthetic, should be good to go

brake cleaner wont hurt anything if the block is stripped down for the rebuild anyway.

thanks everyone for your input you have rep, what should i use to scrub the exterior of the head? a brush of some kind? also could i use the brush on the interior of the head or should i not even worry about it, i mean it's not hurting anything just an oil stain.

onto the block- i will be taking my block to napa for a dip/clean and a hone. it's going to be about 100 bucks is that a good price? i figured i would paint it after i get it back with some high temp engine paint? like the 500 deg at auto zone? i have a haynes manual and plan to take it by the book on the re assembly, i will be buying the bearings and rings. will napa rings do? what about their bearings? i was planning to buy some locally but found theirs to be pretty cheap... also is there anything wrong with using a b18b crank/rod/piston combo in a b18a block?

The cranks/rods/pistons are identical.

As for having the block cleaned and honed...not a bad price especially since you won't have to get dirty ha ha...

If you are getting it cleaned and honed through napa why are you worried about what type of brush to use to clean it?

Also, I wouldn't paint the block...I think that bare aluminum clean blocks look good. If you do paint it however...prep very well and use like header paint so it will last forever.

red2gdsm- they aren't like seeds more like pollen carrying pubes that the trees shaves onto everything in the yard all day long... they suck...not many got into my head only a few flew in there but i don't want those few to mess up my engine in the long run.

custom240sx- yeah i thought so, so i will be dropping the block off tomorrow. i was asking what brush to use to clean the exterior of my head. i called nche and they said it would be 250 for a rebuild on the head... that's money i don't have since i am rebuilding the block. i was thinking about leaving bare aluminum but i want the head to match you know?
