Default COMPTECH USA Ice Box Intake system

I have the COMPTECH USA Ice Box Intake system in my 96 Civic EX. Well its a great design and everything but the foam filter is falling apart so I need a replacement. I see the system going for $350 so i doubt the filter is even cheap. Should I get another foam filter from them or get a gauze/cotton K&N type filter thats the same size diameter to put in there? I'm not a fan of foam, i know they protect a lot more fine particles like dust and such but they fall apart easier and seem messier. So what should I do?

Now how do I find a filter that big an what not? 4-1/8" inside diameter at the flange, the filter portion is 6-3/4" round cone, and the flange is just big enough for a hose clamp.

you can either call up k&n or go to their website to find a cone that size.

I would assume I would get a little more airflow and power from the K&N correct? I know a filter doesnt give you power you can really feel I just wonder why CT Engineering/Comptech USA uses a foam.

There is always a reason a company chooses what it does, And sometime's not. Like SPOON, There filter (ones i've seen on dyno's) Make less power then stock. But K&N would be the first filter i would choose as it is dyno proven and even larger/smaller companies using there own intake tube designs use K&N as there filter's of choice.

Comptech/ CT Engineering charges $45 for a replacement filter. I couldnt find a K&N to the right size. I have head of others using K&N and they had to cut the box and weatherstrip it. I rather not chew up a $160 box. Those that switched to K&N said they dont think it was worth it they would have been just as happy with a foam that is made for it. They said any part shop can order it from them and they gave me a part number. Is thee a way that a shop can get it cheaper?

45 bucks is actually pretty cheap. I'd just grab that.
