i was just wondering what conditions trigger vtecs activation..

My understanding is that the number of rpm. In our cars the tech will activate around 4000 rpm. In acura around 5000 rpm. Somebody correct me if Im wrong.

its based on an RPM switch (5500RPM - 99+ Si) for the electrical side and oil pressure for the mechanical side.

The first Gen B16s activate at 4700. the hydro tranny B16s activate at 5500.

temp speed engine speed and oil pressure. Car has to be at or near normal operating temp speed has to be 20mph or more d16z6 vtec is at 4400 Im almost positive your d16y8 is at 4800 and oil pressure has to be normal. If you get low on oil vtec wont kick on and if you get lower on oil youll throw a code 22 if that happens just add oil and clear the code oh yeah and you cant have other codes thrown some codes will still allow vtec to activate and others wont.
