Bolts wont break at 20 and 8 lbs. Either the threads were bound up (dirty, fouled up threads) or your torque wrench is reading wrong.
Either way, you can't run the engine with broken bolts. Fix-replace and start over but only after you figure out which of the above problems caused them to break.

There is a difference in inch pounds of torque and foot pounds of torque........there may be more to the story....let us know what you found so we can all get smarter.....-Bob

By the way, if you torqued all the bolts down the same, you likely need all new bolts now. If 5 broke, I'm sure the rest have torsional twist and serious stretch stress.
I would guess the larger bolts would have had to see 40 lbs or better to break, unless you've got some poor grade bolts there instead of the oem parts.

Also, it usually takes more than 20 lbs to remove a bolt torqued to 20 pounds. Remember never torque bolts that are not lubed, at least with oil.

Give up on your torque wrench until you are sure it is accurate

the wrench is bad....please go buy all new bolts...every single bolt you used that wrench on should be replaced.
