Default car runs with no key in ignition....wtf?

how could this be possible? all the dash lights and the car will start and run with no key in the ignition. I have the starter and fuel pump wired to a switch. The elctrical part of the ignition switch is brand new from honda about 6 months ago. Let me know what yo guys think.

So when the starter switch is no longer turning the engine, the fuel pump is still pumping fuel?..........Gotta be more to this story........-Bob

There doesn't have to be more to the story. I work on cars all the time putting stereos and alarms and the such in. Many GM vehicles after about 2001 use "chips" in their keys to keep you from starting that vehicle without the correct key. When you put a remote start in a vehicle like this you usually need a secondary key to mount in the vehicle somewhere so that the "key sense" can read that you have the correct key in the car and trick the vehicle into starting without it in the ignition...now that I have stated all of this...I have seen a few GM's that I could turn the key to the start position and start the vehicle, while it is running I could pull directly out on the key without turning it and the key would come out but the vehicle would still stay running and could be driven like normal. The key tumbler is bad or the key is worn out.

i cant pull the key when it is in the "on" position, i have to turn it all the way back to where it locks the steering wheel. somehow it got stuck in the ''on'' position is what im thinking.

sounds like the ignition switch isnt being turned...take the actual switch part off the back of the lock and turn it off with a flathead, see if that works...also inspect that whole area for wear and tear, somthing that might allow the key to turn without turning the switch.

My buddy's integra had a worn out ignition and the key could be pulled out while the car was running, but you still needed the key to start/kill the engine.
