93 non vtech 1.5. just changed the head and gaskets and what not. ive lined up up the cam marks with TDC and ive also adjusted the distributor. the car runs at high RPM but is bogging bad at low RPM. is there a way to put a timing light on the timing belt?

im also having a surging issue at idle wich just started happening. and after about 20 minutes of driving i get a CEL. i checked the radiator fluid and its at the top. could this also be related to the timing being off??

yes it could be cause the timing belt goes around the water pump as well. did you make sure the crankshaft lines on the pulley lined up for TDC?

 

when u line up the pulleys when putting on the belt make sure it hasnt moved any. sometimes itll move oh so slightly and cause it to be off. Clamp the belt to a cam so it doesnt move when its perfectly lined up and try that.

 

sounds like ur a tooth off....surging usually because of the fast idle control under the throttle body=need to tighten nylon valve...

 

Sometimes it is needed to back off/turn the cam about 1/2 tooth toward loose, put on the belt, tighten the belt back, then install the tensioner check cam timing with the belt tight, and lock it down.-Bob
