.... well as i was driving on 275 i was cruising in 5th gear at around 3500 rpms.... the traffic slowed down and so did i.... at around 3000 i noticed that my car was hesitating... its hard to explain but i could feel the slight hesitations as if it would die out and then come back on... and i think the car backfired several times while this was happening... i dont really know what backfiring is suppose to sound but i think that was it...

so i put it to 4th gear and the rpms picked up and everything seemed fine... well as i exited the highway i approached a red light so i had to slow down...as soon as the rpms went to 3ks it started doing it this time its worse! then all of a sudden the engine died out...... i tried to start it but it wouldnt start... so i ended up towing it last night... once it got to my house i started it and everything sounded fine... revved it out a couple of times and things seemed normal... so next morning i checked the plugs and one looked really bad... like a part of the tip got melted off... (im talking about the j shaped tip...) so im guessing my car detonated at this particular cylinder? what kind of engine damage do u think my car has? and what are my possible solutions for this? THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES...

Definately sounds like detonation. Is your car stock? Any info on your car will help

im guessing its detonation as well... but in my case if i would pick up the rpms it would run fine but as soon as it hits 3k or below then thats when it would do all that.... is that how detonation is?
