Balancing a built engine question
Balancing an engine mostly involves weighing the piston/rod assembly and making sure that all four assemblys are within a certain tolerrance of each other. The heavier rods and pistons have a very slight amount of material removed from them to equal the lighter ones. To have the crank balanced involves spinning the crank (most of the time with the flywheel clutch installed due to its heavy weight) and removing material from the crank in heavy spots and that would give you a completely balanced engine. So anyway what Im saying is that its a lot easier to get the engine balanced when its not put together yet. Im currently having mine balanced at Dwans in pinellas park. The cost balancing the pistons rods is $100. As for the head porting and polishing it might be a better idea to look for a new performance head with stainless valves even though expensive might be a better overall deal. After spend anywhere from 300 to 500 for a port and polish then new valves cleaning it new seals and seats you could pay more than a new head. Also the more valve jobs done on a head the worse it becomes.

I agree with what he said. Nearly anywhere can component balanced but its difficult and expensive to dynamically balance. I would component balance the crank rods pistons flywheel and that should be more than enough. BTW you would do this before assembly not afterwards.
For a P&P nowhere locally is going to do a good job. Porting a Honda is more art than science. Look at www.portflow.com they do a nice job at an affordable price.

yeah iam with john noone around here know how to do a honda port job they will just grind the fuck out of your motor with no direction of how to proporlly port a honda motor. There are some good articles on www.theoldone.com on b-series porting. I say get it done either at portflow or at endyn.
What about Topspeed in Naples. Ive heard some good stuff
about them. Anyone had any experiences? John dynoed
any?

Bleh Id be wary with Larry. I dont trust that guy as far as I could throw em. If you do end up sending the head there dont expect a quick turn around...itll be more like 8months or so before you get it back.
