Default 90 teg b18a1 is stalling after plug/wire change

i have a 90 rs teg. i was getting horrible gas mileage so i changed the plugs and wires. after installing them the car didnt start or when it did it would stall at a light bad. i gapped the plugs to spec .40. i re-installed the old stuff being that after inspection they look good and now it did it twice this morning. at a light then it stalls. can anybody post whats 1,2,3,4 on the distributor cap? thats the only thing i can think of. i got the end of the wires backwards. i tried switching them around but nothing works. anybody got any idea? it never stalled before i yanked everything out. maybe a new distributor or take it apart to clean it? i stumped.

is it idling fine? if the wire were installed wrong it would not fire right and more than likely backfire really bad (i should know ). maybe you do not have the wires secured over the plugs properly. i think .40 is too tight of a gap assuming it is a stock motor. try .45-.48 gap and report back. oh, never change your plugs on a warm ond or hot motor let it cool down first.

it idles fine. it will run for a few mins then at a light it would stall, then ill restart it then it will take 3-4 turns for it to start. it will turn but wont turn over til 3-4 turns of the key. yes its a completely stock motor. its my dd. ill regap them to .45 or so. i looked online and it said .40.

never knew about the last statement on the change of plugs. thanks for the info. ill report back tommorrow morning.

Your car should have a tach. Does the tach moves all over the place not reading correctly? It may be your ignighter going bad in your dizzy.

lines not meaning cracks? or you mean if the contact points are worn where the rotor rubs against

ok took off the distributor and the spring with the lil connector was all mangled and twisted. went to auto zone and got a new one and works again like a champ. changed out the rotor to since i was in there. the rotor wasnt just making enough of an electrical contact to that lil connector. thanks renegade.

No problem, that's good that you got the car working properly again.
