LS/VTEC is a fad, and I predict that it will be all but a pleasant memory in a few short years

cute....but disproven already. there are tons of ls/vtec and b20/vtec setups making great the same if not more power than gsr setups with the same cams etc. and if built right they can be revved and are just as reliable as any b series vtec motor out there.

yeah, the website does make a lot of sense and is a good reason why I will never build a lsvtec myself. I like to follow my rule that if honda didnt build it, there must be a good reason why. i would never do a lsvtec myself because I feel that the build lacks reliability and longevity when revved high, because of the high revs required to reach the peek power curve with pr3 vtec heads. but when you factor in 94+ gsr heads, I can see a more reliable motor with the stock manifold because of its lower end power potentials.

i bet my ls vtec is just as reliable as any gsr at high revs, with more tq to boot. if u dont skip steps and cut corners when u build the ls vtec it will be plenty reliable. one can speculate all day about why honda did this and why honda did that, but the truth is, none of us are the enigneers that designed these motors. so think what you want. i did tons of research before i built my setup. and i did manage to sumble across that article. does it make sense? sure. the gsr has a superior r/s ratio than any ls vtec or b20 vtec etc....and a b16 has a better ratio than the gsr. but dyno numbers and et's dont lie. as far as reliability goes, its all in the assembly. assemble right, and youre golden. cut corners and of course its going to blow up. but i have yet to see an decently built lsv put pistons thru cylinder walls. in fact ive seen more gsr's do that than ls vtecs.

the windage tray in the gsr block and the girdle add reliability. im still using my ls block and have been driving around and beating on it for a year now. no problems.

o yea i forgot to mention, not tuning the motor is a big cause for the lack of reliability.

cant find the article about it but honda was going to start building them and putting them in cars but the k series was to successfull it was going to take the place of the k but they decided that k is way better so they threw that idea out the window lol
