I know your options are to run the VIN of the car on the FDLE website but what about motor swaps? How/Where do you run the numbers on the motors block?
If the engine has no VINs, like most honda motors, then theres no real way to tell.
There are signs though, if it should have a VIN and doesn't, or if the engine code/serial number has been removed with a grinder.

certain models came with VIN tags on the motor. I believe the EK SIs have them.
most motors should have a vin plate down by the oil pan, and the transmissions should have one on the bellhousing...

yeah, find all the numbers you can on the engine and then call up your local sheriff's station and see what they say, but thats only if the previous owner had that information
or there is the very off chance that you can take the engine/transmission identification number to Honda and then get the VIN off of that and then go to your local police station

Yes there are Vin plates on the motors by the oil pans and on the bell housings like previously mentioned. If they are removed then the motor is probably stolen.
Things to note;
-Cable trannies had a sticker for a vin number and it is not uncommon for those to not be there anymore.
-Motors bought new from the dealer do not have Vin's because they never came in a car. I have a 00 type R block bought new from the dealer and it has a different stamp on it "R DOT" which I believe signifies a dealer bought block.
