Default shifter wobble after misshift

the other day i was redlining gears and somehow i went from 4th to 3rd on accident. Now after that when i push the shifter to the right in neutral i hear a small metal on metal grinding, but it sounds like its coming from the actual shifter itself, not inside the transmission, so I think my syncros are ok. Also now in 5th gear while cruising my shifter wobbles like crazy. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

When I look under the car and move the shifter back and forth in neutral, my exhaust moves down a little bit. Is my shifter hitting my exhaust causing the rattle/movement?

why would there be a metal on metal sound though? I can't get under my car to check everything out right now.

1st step would be to get the car in the air and inspect

check the shifter bushings, then undo some of the exhaust hangers so the exhaust sits lower and drive it around a bit to see if the exhaust is the problem....but i have a feeling you bent somthing in the tranny by slamming the shifter too hard. good luck

that doesnt mean anything....my stock civic with a short shifter did that. and it had no shifting noises or problems....like i said try to drop the exhaust down and see if that helps...if it does no biggy just ignor it.

well i couldn't take it any longer so I just went out and took a look under my car. The metal/metal contact noise I hear/feel is definitely the bottom of the shifter hitting on the exhaust heat shield. This somehow happened as a result of over revving. The D bushing is almost fully out of place, i have ES bushings sitting on my dresser ready to go. So I need to figure out why the shifter is now lower than before, and put the new bushings in, change trans fluid and see how the car feels from there.

ok here's the deal. The bottom of the shifter and part of the shift linkage was for some reason rubbing on the top of the exhaust heatshield. I took off the heat shield and hammered it down a little bit so it didnt hit. I also installed new polyurethane shifter bushing and flushed my transmission fluid and put in honda genuine manual transmission fluid. My shifting feels better than it ever has before.
