Default Anyone running CTR pistons?

The more i read about running ctr pistons in a b16 the more i worry. I want to run high comp/all motor and saw that using the ctr pistons, you have to worry about piston to head clearance because it is very close. i do not want to run into problems with the pistons kissing the head or valves. Someone who has done a setup like this before, please inform me.

i can only find a max of 81.25 which gives me enough to bore the block .25 over. and they are $169 for the set with wrist pins. extra $100 for oem rings.

What kind of compression ratio could i expect with using the 81.25mm ctr pistons, 2 layer headgasket, and omni power high comp. valves? it looks like around 12:1, is this correct? ill be doing a full n/a build real soon, and liked the CR of the pct pistons.. price is nice too

+1 u wont be at 12:1 compression with those pistons in a b16 bc its got such a short stroke. if u threw those pistons in a gsr with a ls crank then ud be closer to the 12ish range. ctr pistons in a b16 is perfect. get some bigger cams to take advantage of that n ull have a bad ass b16.

Actually, the pct pistons are going to be out of the hole on a b16a block.

People forget a b16b block is a b18c block in spec and thus quite a bit taller than a b16a 1/2/3 block. You also have to take into account the pct/ctr pistons sit about a third of an inch higher on the pin. That extra compression height along with a larger dome volume adds up to 12:1 in a b16 block.

Lots of people have put the pct pistons in expecting reasonable compression and are surpised by what they end up with. A lot of the miscalculating over the years has to do with reliance on the c-speed compression calculator, which does not adjust the deck height number correctly when using pct pistons. It is presumed this is because they didn't factor in the added compression height of the pct's.

The ZealAutowerks - Honda Compression Calculator calculator does factor in everything correctly. Also, if you subtract the added compression height from the deck height box on the c-speed calulator, it works fine. (The extra compression height of the pcts to subtract is .0287)

Your setup with no decking of the block or head, with 82mm pct pistons shows a static compression of 12.16:1 on the zeal calculator. If you stick with your 81.25mm bore, it drops to 11.97:1 on the zeal calc. Remember, if you cut down the head or block, it will be higher in all cases.

This is something you need to know when driving in the heat of August in Florida and trying not to detonate. The compression is not too high for 93 octane provided you are tuned properly, but you will want to go with some performance cams and adjustable gears that will provide the lift and duration to bleed off a bit of the compression and give you a little more flexability in tuning. CTR cams would help, but remember, they are matched at the factory to an engine with 10.8:1 compression. You would do a lot better with something more aggressive.

i planned on much bigger cams. this is the build i have in mind:
b16 block and head, ctr pistons, eagle h-beam rods, eagle l/w knife edged crank, itr oil pump, itr girdle, blockgaurd, omni power h/c ss valves, O/P titanium retainers, bronze valve guides, prob O/P valve springs, buddyclub spec 4 cams, buddyclub cam gears, new seals and gaskets.
And a good tune from Vega on obd1

sounds like a good plan but alot problems..you will have to groove the Ctr pistons to use on the hbeam rods"i can do it for 45bucks thats includeing locks".dont waste the money on a Eagle crank not needed..the girldes ok but not needed.SPec4 is cutting it VERYVERY close i would stick with Ctr cams....but the head sounds good with Omni.......

i had near the same setup in the black hatch in my galley and ran 13.06 all motor

its either the spec3+ or the spec 4 cams. the spec 3+ seems like a good choice.
