Question about 98 Accords...need to know before 3pm.
Going to look at a '98 Accord LX/Vtec today. It has 140k on it, automatic...owner says that it needs a tranny flush. He says that in higher RPMs it occasionally either slips or revs a little high before shifting (not sure if it shifts rough/jerks yet I'll find out at 3pm).
Now I know there was an issue with the V6 transmissions, but does anyone know of an issue with the 4 cylinders? Does the issue (as it stands) sound like a tranny issue or a flush issue? I've read a lot of mixed reviews of people saying doing the power flush is bad for an auto tranny, others say it's fine. Something about it depends on if it is the MAXA or BAXA model transmission...?
I also know if the RPM has issues off the line, either the transmission or internal clutch is fubar, and not to bother. I remember with my '95 Mirage it would sometimes rev higher than normal to shift, turned out to be low on fluid, fixed when I put some in.
Since the bellhousing on the '98+ Accord transmission DOESN'T have a dipstick, and besides shifting, is there any way really to tell what the issue might be when I get there (as in towards the CV's) or how to tell if it might be the gears themselves or the torque converter?
Thanks guys!

Think I'm gonna skip it. Price was right but I'm reading WAY too many problems online about the 98-02 Accord transmissions (for both the 4cyl and the V6)...shame, I really wanted one of these.

Hes right I have worked on thses trannys if they are slipping, it is more then likely that the clutches are worn or the solenoids need to be replaced, Honda recs that the trans flush is done every 30k miles. if it is not maintained these are the types of problems that arise.
