Default My s2000 peoples...

Just a question I was thinking of. My Timing Chain Tensioner went out @ about 52k. I did some research on another forum and found a DIY (fairly simple) and that its ok to run it so long as I don't go over 6k rpms. Anyways, in my research I found out that this is something that either A. fairly common or B. people exaggerated on how often it happens. Has anyone with an s2000 replaced their's yet? If so how many times? Also, has anyone had their valves adjusted? Can you reccommend a shop? That is where some of my $600 from teh government is going to, as well as new springs and retainers.

PS Yes I am too lazy to PM the 7-10 or so members of TR that do own one.

I have never replaced my chain tensioner but I do replace the timing belt like every 20k miles for good measure since its like a $40 insurance part.

EDIT:

I have a b20b so I meant the belt tensioner. My buddy had 70k on his S2000 and never changed either.

I agree with LIQUID, I would only trust my car with Todd at 2nerwerks...I have a friend who just had his done on his 03 and Todd did it in a day. Oh and btw, I received my notice from the government that stated most people will only receive $300...Whats up with that????

i had my valves adjusted about a year ago. it seemed to help with throttle response, and also made the valvetrain quieter

^That's what I hope to accomplish.

^^That's $300 I didn't have before and that should still be more than enough for parts/labor anyways.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Edit:What about you guys' timing chain tensioner?

You can replace the tensioner yourself, it is very easy.

How to: Forums -> Timing Chain Tensioner Noise

Be careful bolting the new one back in, do not apply to much pressure or the bolt will snap. Ask me how I know.

Good luck.

^thanks! That was the DIY I saw. I didn't know about the bolt, I'll assume you broke it and since you can't put the old one back in you were screwed until you got a new one. If that's the case that sucks. I'll heed the warning, I didn't see too many warnings other than don't drop anything or you're taking apart your head.

Update!

I changed it and it still ticks! WTF?! I'm thinking a valve adjustment at this point. I never misshifted or starved it of oil so I don't think its a bent valve. Any guesses?
