Yes there is a sequence. I never use silicone. Don't overtorque the bolts, that will also cause the gasket to leak.

^ +1 over tightening it "smooshes" the gaset out the sides and causes it to leak.

could have stripped out the drain bolt too and that sometimes causes a slight leak. its rare but it could happen.

Use a honda oem gasket and make sure to clean up the nuts and bolts real good with brake clean, clean off the bottom of the block and do NOT over tighten. Oh yeah, what type of car is it? It may only require silicone in certain spots or none at all.

also may be rear main seal...just had that prollem with my teg...no oil leak on motor anywere but could tell it was leaking oil...so i look under the var and see the oil pan covered in oil...cleaned it off with brake cleaner and checked it 2 days later same thing repeated again and finally discovered its coming from the rear main....
