Need opinions and have tranny questions

Default Need opinions and have tranny questions

Ok i have a b16 crx with the short s1 tranny. it has the optional lsd(from what ive been told). Upon engagement, 2nd gear sometimes grinds 3rd and 4th always grind, and reverse does unless i put it in another gear first.

My options:
1) buy gearspeed carbon coated synchros for 250 for the whole set
2) take it to Neal Sutton to fix it with oem parts for 250
3) buy an ls tranny for 250

Ill be going turbo in a few months and need this done first. So i really need everyones opinions on this

sounds like you have a bad shiftlinkage or motor mounts..but i would go with opt3 buy dohc16crx tranny it is perfect save you money..and i doubt your tranny has lsd if it is a s1 s1 never had lsd or optinal

how could it be shift linkage or motor mounts? i know for a fact that 3rd gear synchro is basically gone. we tested it at work (i work at a honda dealer). plus its not like its every gear. 1st, 2nd and 5th are fine. its rare that 2nd will grind.

Opt 1. Keep the short geared tranny and build it yourself.

ok guys a few more questions. my tranny needs a rebuild for sure. but i want an ls 5th. is it worth doing new synchros and the ls 5th, or would it be cheaper to find a different tranny with close to the same setup? what tranny would be ideal?

im not going turbo anymore, im going n/a, but i still want a lower cruising rpm in 5th for better gas mileage. what should i do?

Rebuild with an ls 5th. That way you know exactly what you have. Don't cheap out!
