Default rev limit question

k so here is the deal. im gonna be trying to dial in the air/fuels on my ls vtec in a bit (after all the parts are on it) and was gonna re set my rev limiter. at the moment its set at 8300 rpm on a rich crome basemap. im running a bone stock gsr head with a skunk 2 intake manifold. n the bottom end has shot peened n polished ls rods, arp bolts, usdm itr pistons, brand new bearings and rings, gsr head bolts, and basic bolt ons. when its tuned itl have a bigger throttle body, hytech tri y header, test pipe, greddy evo 1 exhaust, and at the moment i re set my cam timing just as a base starting point (+2 intake -1 exhaust).

so my question is, what is a safe rev limit for this setup? any and all feed back is welcome! thanks in advance!

i dont see a need for more 8200 being as using stock gsr cams.
my old lsvtec had a similar build (jdm b16 head and pistons arp rold and head bolts) and i left it at 8200 and beat on it daily without problems..went 7k like that before i rebuilt for low comp. which my friend is drivin and has a few thousand miles..still beating 8200rpm often..

are u just wanting to go higher or questioning ur rev limiter now??

when i reset the cam timing it moved peak power up higer in the rpm....so now the thing wants to keep going at 8200 rpm instead of being ready to shift. i just want to know if its safe to take it higher with me setup. i should have also mentioned its on a gsr water pump n type r oil pump, gsr flywheel n b16 tranny. but yea....is it safe to take it higer? not too much. prolly 8400 shift point with an 8500 rev limit at the most! just wanted to kno if id hurt anything that way.

hope you have dual valve springs in there? why rev that high if you are not sure you are making power that high? getting on the dyno will tell you that for sure. not to pick on you but if you went and got the arp rod bolts why you did not get the head studs as well.

arp head studs have a real high tq setting. so high that it can cause the block to warp. i dont c the point to head studs on an n/a setup. the jdm type r revs as high or higher than my setup on HEAD BOLTS. so i see no reason to spend the extra money on them, especially when they could warp the blcok.

as for the valve train, i believe all gsr heads have dual intake springs. not sure about the exhaust tho. im pretty sure the motor is making power that high. i kno butt dynos are bad but the motor is far from stock. the way its setup it SHOULD make power that high. so will someone answer my question. is it going to harm something internally if i rev it an extra 200 rpm over stock?

o n to add to this....ls rod bolts are something that MUST b replaced if doing ls vtec bc the dinky ls ones will not hold up very long at high rpm.

id think 8500 would be ok..im sure the head can take that..and the block if built correctly should too..but like mentioned a dyno would say for sure if u are even makin power that high and its up to you to risk trying..just because one guys can doesnt mean urs can ya know..

yea i kno what ur saying. the bottom end was done up right i can assure u of that. i kno i dont have the cam to make power past 8400 so i really dont want to push that far. but a couple hundred rpm can make all the difference in the world between shifts yanno. it will b dyno tuned in the near future i can assure u of that. once i get all the parts on and the a/fs dialed in itl hit the dyno for sure. but for now i just needed to know if it was safe. thanks for the help. rep to all that helped.

and btw ill save the 10000 rpm for the rotarys. lol they sound the best that high anyway. although having a 1.8l shriek that high would b something special. itbs anyone? lol
