Default E-Brake Light----Need Insight

So today when i turned on my car, i noticed the e brake light didnt go off when i put it down....it stayed on for about 20 min and everytime i came to a red light and hit my footbreak, the light would go off but as soon as i let off the brake the ebrake light came back on! i tried pulling the ebrake up and down a number of times and even tried slammin it down but the light stayed on...it eventually went off and stayed off... i have no idea what that means-if anything-and need some insight if anybody knows whats up! thanks!

how about checking your brake fluid? low fluid would cause the "brake" light to come on when the car is moving.

1. Could be the ebrake switch, you would have to take off the cover to see this, could be stuck down

2. Check to see if you have either a leaky wheel cylinder, caliber or brakeline.
Check to see if the brake switch on your brake pedal is bad. Also check to see if the master cylinder is leaking into the the brake booster

3. If those are OK, then your proportional valve most likely has to be replaced, and then bleed the brakes with the key on but not running
