Default Timing question/starting question....

Ok here we go.... i have an ls turbo wit low compression pistons(8.8 )...well i tested the compression it makes 60 all the way across....an i have to retard the timing way past stock on the distrubutor for the car to run....the rings are good....i got a new head so i dont think its bent valves...timing is right.....if i set the distributor to stock setting the car does not even start just turns over....does anyone know wat it could be....if u have anymore questions please feel free to ask me......

Sounds like you compression is way to low and you are having to retard the timing. You may want to get a 3 layer head gasket just to pump up the compression a little bit. 8.8 is good, but 60 psi is not. A stock turbo Mitsu is like 160, Ls teg is 180, so you can see you need to bump that up a bit.

Did you have the block honed?

8:8 should be around 160-185 in a ls sounds like you need to readjust all your valves

agreed compression is way too low
start by doing a leak down test to verify no ring, valve or hg damage.
if it passes all good, adjust your valves, check your timing alignment and you should be good

set each piston to tdc (so valves should be closed) and see if you can wiggle all of the rollers. if you cant wiggle them all, then your valves arent closing all the way, and you need to adjust them. this is where i would start IF you are sure the timing is 100%

its cheaper than a leak down test right?

I bet $1.28 that the valves weren't adjusted. You might want to adjust them slightly tighter cause of the lower compression. I think you should be fine after that. Let me know how it turns out. If you need any help pm me.
