Default LS/VTEC Questions

HATE IT OR LOVE IT??

let me know the pros and cons of ls/vtec... Over the next few months im gonna be building one possibly for boost so i wanted to know the best things to get for this build... I have the Block already. What head should i go with?..

Also i see alot of mount kits for b-series in a Eg but i heard that they were straight drop-in's help me out one this on guys... im single cam all the way but i think its time to step it up to dual.

let me know what you guys think.. im not looking to build this over night so time it will take so give me some hope... thanks

the longer it takes to build the more money it will cost.you can build a STRONg running longlasting lsvtec very cheap and you have the bottom end already..so just get the other parts some b16 pistons with rings=90.a full gasket kit=90.arp rod bolts=40.polishe the crank 35.bearing set 50.head i would go with b16A2 being newer=400-500.oil line30.plug for head .24cents.dowlPins 12..timingbelt 38..as for mount someone else should know this..

im in the process of building one as well. I've had the b18b block, i going with p30 pistons and rings, acl race bearings, arp rod bolts, im using a b16a2 head with REV dual valve springs and retainers, bronze valve guildes, and skunk2 stage 2 cams. the head though is not ported(not enough cash available) but milledto ensure sraightnessand the block was decked also ensure straightness. the only thing im missing is the arp head studs beacuse in still unsure of which ones to use(so if anyone can help me on that one) im also using a skunk2 pro Intake manifold and skunk2 TB, With RC 310cc injectors...im hoping to hit 200hp mark with the rest of my bolt-ons AEM Fuel rail, AEM FPR, skunk2 Cam gears, walbro fuel pump, MSD 6AL, MSD cap and blaster coil, Unorthodox underdrive pulley, ALtenator pulley and PS pulley. and 4-1 headers with a 2.5 inch collector with test pipe witha Apexi N1 exhaust system. not sure what im going to use as a tuning system yet.

An lsvtec is just as good as any built motor. It will come down to part selection and the skill of whoever assembles it. There is nothing wrong with lsvtecs except for the majority of the people who put them together for the first time fuck up the build or cheap out on something and they blame it on the motor being an "lsvtec".

id jump on some arp head studs before you put it together...and 200 might be hard still with stock pistons

sounds pretty good not a fan of race bearings with stock rods tho, just had maybe 3problems or so on builds when thos where used with stock rods...as for head bolts b16 or gsr either is fine

i just built myne. went with usdm type r pistons n a gsr head. skunk 2 intake manifold too. shootin for 180 at the wheels with the rest of the bolt ons. i would not use tha arp head bolts. the tq spec is much higher than the stock spec, and can cause the block to warp. golden eagle has a stud with nice tq specs. i just went with new oem gsr head bolts. i say u get whichever head u come by at the best deal. both are close to the same (the debates on this are endless). one thing i would definately recomend getting is the golden eagle conversion kit. if u dont get the kit at least get the sandwhich plate and the line. but the kit comes with literally EVERYTHING u need to convert. tap dowels, sandwhich plate, line, fitting, etc.... jsut my .02. i love my ls vtec!!!!
