Default ecu chip / tuned?

Hey peeps,

is there any advantage to have a professional (ie someon'es who's done it before) "chip" or "tune" the ecu in a d16y8?

i guess, if i wanted to lower the vtec engagement threshold and increase the rev limiter (or remove it).

advantages? inconvenience?
thoughts?

price to do this?

just curious! thanks

Lowering your vtec engagement point can actually make your vehicle make less power.

If you were to set your vtec engagement at lets say 4000 rpms and you were to put your car on the dyno, you would see a huge dip in power due to the engagement point of the high cam profile being too early..

Raising your revlimit is honestly pointless unless you are actually capable of making positive power passed the factory revlimit.

One major advantage to going to an obd1 chipped ecu setup is the fact that your vehicle will be tunable no matter what platform you go with.. I.e. stay y8 n/a or if you went y8 turbo, dohc non-vtec or vtec n/a or turbo etc...

Do some reading on phearable.net's efi beginner guide for more info.

Agreed

The only thing you might get is a bit more gas mileage and 2-4 more hp
