I have a 00 si and I have just bought an aftermarket catalytic converter. After about two hours of cruising in the car the engine light came on. I was told that it was because the o2 sensor in the cat since it is straight threw design. Is this correct and is there anyway I can get the o2 sensor to work with the new cat. without the engine light activating? Thanks for the help.

Well you can always bust out the multimeter and check what the required voltage is and then hook up a resitor inline to keep that voltage or probably the best way would be to weld on an bung extension pack the extension with some of the catalyst and then screw the O2 sensor back in.

I am some what new to this but I thought the o2 sensor worked off of the gases in the cat not voltage. What if the sensor was just removed will the light still come on? Thanks.

To be brief the o2 sensor is a device that measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gas. Depending upon the oxygen content (none meaning rich lots meaing lean) the o2 sensor creates the appropriate voltage which is interpreted by the ECU as the condition. Youve gotta remember everything from a pressure signal to a engine knock is translated into a voltage signal.

You might want to try to get ahold of Kenji but I believe you will need a 10 ohm resistor in line with your 02 wire. HTH.
