alright... im going across this bridge near my house at about 60mph (speed limit 55), on my way to work... just "cruisin'" and i hear this loud pop and something falls out from under my car. it appeared to be a small black piece (maybe 3" by 3"). at first i thought i ran something over. then my car starts to jerk around and smoke starts spewing out of my hood and my oil light comes on.

i instantly pull over... i pop my hood and check my oil because it looked like oil was dumping out of the back of the motor. the oil level was fine. i was almost to the end of the bridge so i rid it gently in first gear about a block to this parking lot. it drove like shit. when i get there i check the oil level again and there isnt a drop of oil left.

it seemed to be coming from the back and front of the block but i really couldnt tell.

my oil change was do... i had just hit 3000 miles on my last oil change the day before and i use full synthetic.

any ideas as to what could have happened. as it sits, in my opinion, i need a new block but i wont really be able to tell what happened until i rip the motor out. my friend said he thinks i blew the rear main seal but im not sure...

any advice or help is appreciated

Just got to jack it up and look at the block from underneath, check for large holes lol.

i jacked it up the day it happened and i couldnt see anything. is it possible that it could just be a seal? if it was just the rear main seal or something... is it possible that i wouldnt have to tear my block down?

don't think the rear main seal would leak out all that oil in the short time that you said you checked it. sure something did not puncture the oil pan or you threw a rod for whatever reason and created a hole in the block?

 

if it was black sounds like your Pcv box blow off

 

what is the pcv box? and would that cause all the oil to drain?

If oil is draining try pulling the a/c condensor. I had a car that the motor blew and could find anything. Started to pull motor apart when i pulled the a/c cond. out of the was the metal chunks started to fall

for real i had to read that out loud to try and understand and still could not.
when he says pcv box i think he means the breather box.

 

what would cause the pcv box to do that? and where is this located?
