Tachometer going haywire
So I get my car back after being rebuilt a couple weeks ago and the RPM's go haywire when I'm WOT. Found out the dizzy was bad so I got a new one and it stopped doing that but now the wacky RPM's are back again. Any ideas? My speedometer works perfect. Also if this information helps at all, when VTEC is supposed to engage that's when the RPM"s go crazy and VTEC breaks up, like it goes in and out from loud to normal noise, very weird. It's a 94 Integra GS-R. Thanks in advance.

yup, check 7 and make sure all the points in the dizzy are clean (the part that the rotor makes contact with), as well as the rotor too (that it is clean). make sure the vtec spool screen are clean.

Check the ground on engine harness located near the lower radiator hose.

I took off the dizzy and I didn't see anything wrong with it, still looked brand new (I did buy it new from Advance Auto Parts). The tach still goes crazy after VTEC is supposed to enagage, and it still sounds like it's trying to switch to VTEC, it makes valve tapping noises when it does. I checked under the radiator and I couldn't find any ground, if you can show a picture where it would be located that would be great. I did find a ground not on the frame, I put a bolt on it and I found it to be the 2nd fan ground so now I have both fans running. Thanks for all your help, but unfortunately I still have not fixed the problem.

Okay, I checked the ground and saw what you were talking about John, it was grounded properly and bolted in, still receiving the same problems. I'm beginning to think it's the dizzy I got at Advance Auto. I'm going to go back and trade it in for another one, I'll come back if the problem persists.Thanks.
