Default obd1 check engine code

did a search on here and on google and did not get a definite answer. what does it mean when your check engine light stays on when checking codes? did a test and unplugged the vtec solenoid wire and got code 21 which is the vtec solenoid. so it is reading right. now i plugged back in the solenoid and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a while. now i get no code. still would like to know what the solid check engine light means. some sites say a 0 is a bad ecu, but is that a 0? never had no major problems with my car or codes and yes my car is fully tuned. thanks all

did it again (check the code) to make sure and now it is on solid again this is screwy

Is the check engine light on while driving?

Or are you just testing it out?

Solid cel means nothing is wrong On obd1

On obd0 solid red light on ecu means its bad.

What im asking is are you just messing with it?

You have no check engine light while normal driving right?

Its fine since it is obd1 it will stay solid unless something is wrong.

You dont turn the car completely on when checking only to the on position

Normally your check engine light turns on, then turns off after the fuel pump is primed. If the check engine light stays on, then you are throwing a code. At this time you would then want to jump the service connector to check your malfunction indication codes.

well my air fuel guage was not working corectly (yeah i know they are not accurate) but never had no problems with it. so was just cheching the code to see if anything came up.

well i have a monitor (vafc) that block the view of the check engine light. but the vafc cannot make adjustments it was sort of unwired that way when i was getting a base tune done and was that way when got it fully tuned so don't think that wouls cause any issues.

ok so when testing the check engine light will stay solid until a problem comes up. but in obd0 where you check he light on the ecu itself if it stays solid that means the ecu is bad.

I think thats what he is doing, from what I understand he just wanted to test if it worked so when he jump the plug and it stayed solid on the dash which is normal on a obd1 civic.

when i have the plug unjumped the light goes off when the fuel pump finishes priming, but when i have the plug jumped the light stays on. will go outside and check it again.

That is correct. This means you are throwing no codes.
If you jump the service connector and the light stays on solid, then you un-jump the service connector and the light turns off, this means you are throwing no code...

If you were to have a check engine light, then jump the service connector and the light did not blink at all, then you would have a bad ecu etc..
