I'd suggest taking the axle out and inspect it. I'm gonna take a guess and say that either the clip was damaged or didn't get installed.

The c-clip is wire about the dia of a coathanger. Fits into a groove going around the end of the axle, within 1/2 inch on some cars, from the end.
They come installed on every axle I have seen. Yours had one.

When the axle is pushed in, the clip is compressed and opens up once it is past the trans bushing. That keeps the axle from sliding back out
if the c-clip is strong enough...and if the axle
is the proper length.

In those pics, the tapered thing we see needs to be investigated.-Bob

go to autozone and borrow the tool! Give them a security deposit and they'll give you the tool. Return the tool and get your loot back.

well called a few places and said it was def the axle like u guys said. they said clip either came loose or it is the wrong axle but it cant be the wrong axle man i looked up the part numbers and all the same for like 8 years on d series trannys also it worked great for like 2 weeks or so. that is why i am guessing that the clamp was the culprit.
