Default motor idel can't handle a/c ??

Ok peeps, for those wiser in mechanics and honda's than me:

I've had the a/c in my car for about 6 months now. pre-a/c, idle was as you'd expect on a 92 n/a (with short ram AEM intake) Eg... idles fine.
When the a/c got installed, the idle, when the a/c kicked in, kinda slows down and kicks back up. the sensation as a driver is as if the car is about to stall but never does, as it (whatever it is that kicks in, fan i suppose) kicks in right on time.

I've actually never stalled with the car until today... Here is the context: Left the car at about noon at International Plaza, outside under sun for an hour. Go get the car, run on a/c... drive... after the 2nd stop sign, car stalls... i turn the keys, worried, and continue on... same thing happened a bit later... same problem...

When i turn a/c off, the idle speed seems a bit higher or about what it usually feels like and doesn't stall. when a/c is on, same impressions as if the car is about to stall but doesn't... exept for the 3 times it did today.

What should i make of that? The motor is close to 200,000 miles, so i know it's getting a little tired... but i can not drive with no a/c with this freakin heat!!

Any suggestions as to whether this is minor and i should just deal with it, or if there is a tune-up or a part i could change... or what would create this problem in the first place.

let me know. thanks.

do you have a tach? when it idles without a/c what rpm idles at? with the a/c on go to the throttle body and theres a screw (flat screw driver) and turn it towards the firewall and see if that helps.

How old is the compressor? It may be seizing up.

I would check your electrical connections battery terminals. I used to stall and it drove me nuts until I found that the ground cable was cut, so it puts more stress on the alternator and can't keep the car alive. other than that do what civicracingfl said.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

your motor should idle around 600-800 without ac, theres a close to the maf sensor left of the sensor, when you unscrew it idles higher, but do it with the ac on and the lights and bring it up to 600-700 rpm

that would bandaid the issue, but i think its either compressor or charge system related. it could be a few things: system building too much pressure, compressor going out, elec. connections.

is it only on hot days?

+1 also if your condensor fan is not kicking on because the relay went bad it will start to build up to much pressure and also when the compressor is getting ready to seize both of these incidents happend to me.

the "its about to stall sensation" happens when its hot and regulat temp outside. the actual stalling out has only happened that day under hot outside temps.

thx for the pics, that'll make it easier for me to find.

not wanting to band-aid the symptom but actually take care of the issue, should i just go see my garagiste and ask him to give it a look at?
